Meet Anny! Anny is January's Monthly Client Feature at the Samaritan Center!
Anny has been a client at the Samaritan Center since April 2023 and her first impression was that she felt safe and she knew she was going to find the help she was in need of. When Anny was 71 years old, she suffered a devastating injury and broke her back. Her injury called for spinal fusion which then prevented her from working. After residing in an independent living facility for 2 years, she was no longer able to afford her room and she began living out of her van.
After coming to the Samaritan Center, she connected with her caseworker, Brittany, and together they collaborated to assist Anny with resources that fit her exact needs. Anny stated, "Working with Brittany was wonderful in every way. She went out of her way to help me with paperwork, look for housing, and whatever I need that the Samaritan Center can provide."
Anny had applied for public housing and section 8 over 8 years ago. In January of 2024 she was able to receive a voucher and began awaiting a unit to be matched with. Finally, on November 30th, 2024 she moved into a unit and is no longer experiencing homelessness! When asked what would you say to those also experiencing homelessness, Anny encouraged those to take advantage of every resource the Samaritan Center and other organizations provide to the community. She also expressed to never give up hope.
"I would have been in much worse shape without the assistance the Samaritan Center provided. It truly was a lifeline."
Thank you for sharing your inspiring story, Anny!
